Hey!
My name is Holly and I am a third year student of my Primary
Education degree and I can’t believe how fast the first two years have been!
I decided
that I wanted to become a Primary School teacher during a two week work
experience working in a Nursery setting in Year 11, however had never
considered going to university until I started Sixth form, where we had weekly
meetings about UCAS and personal statements. From the end of year 12, I decided
it was time to start considering the right university and course for me to help
me in my future career in teaching. After speaking to my careers adviser, I
realised that if I wanted to do a Primary Education degree at University, I
needed more experience to even be considered as an applicant. So, I volunteered
at a local primary school one afternoon a week. This not only helped me gain
more valuable experience needed for the course but I realised how much I loved
the setting of the school and that it was definitely what I wanted to do in the
future.
Picking a
university was also quite challenging as lots of different universities offer
similar courses. However, after going to several open days and lots of
different universities, I decided that Greenwich was the one. I loved the
location of the placement schools and the modules that were to be taught.
This year the workload has certainly increased and placements are be much harder, however, it’s exciting to think that this time next year,
hopefully I’ll have a class of my own J.
