Hello all!

Long time no speak! As you know I have been on an 8 week
placement so I have been extremely busy but it was all worth it in the end.

As the weeks went on, I took on more and more responsibility,
by week 2 I had full control of the class; planning for every lesson, assessing
each child and taking on after school clubs. It was very stressful to say the
least! However, I enjoyed every minute of it.

Now that placement has finished, I have been looking for
jobs to start in September (ahh I feel so grown up). I was lucky enough to be
offered a job at a school after a very long interview process but I had to
decline it because it wasn’t the year group I was hoping for L. But onwards and
upwards! I have my eyes on a couple more schools around.

If you are looking for teaching jobs, I’d really recommend
downloading the TES app. It shows you all of the jobs that are within a 20 mile
radius of you wherever you are and it’s really easy to use. Also, when you’re
filling out the application form, ALWAYS get someone else to check it through
for spelling mistakes and ALWAYS use the correct practise/practice. This could
be a deal breaker and there’s a chance you won’t even be shortlisted for an
interview. With an application form, you always have to write a personal
statement, make sure that you always refer to the job description because this
is what it is there for! Always get your tutor to look through it with the job
description so that they can double check that you have hit all of the
criteria.

As well as all of this, I have also got to finish off my
dissertation and revise for my exam so I am still busy busy busy but not long
left now until I finish University (7 weeks, not that I’m counting…). I can’t
believe I’ve been at university for 3 years now :O. Time has absolutely flown
by. I am really nervous about entering into the big wide world of work but I
really do love my job so it’s all worth it.

I have officially started my block placement now which means
I am now taking 4 mornings and 3 afternoons a week. To say I am tired would be
an understatement! But like I said before, although I am tired and sleeping
seems to be on the top of my list of things to do, I like to spend as much free
time as I can meeting up with my friends and going out and having fun (although
squeezing a nap in between is a necessity for me.)

I have officially passed both of my skills test so it means
that I can officially start job hunting (eeekkkkk!!!) although looking for jobs
that start in September do not really come out until about March time. I'm
trying to be organised though by drafting out personal statements, CVs as well
as getting any tips I can on interviews.

I start my block placement very soon which means that I will
be acting as class teacher for about 8 weeks with half term in between... Very
excited and nervous! I met the class I will be working with before Christmas
and everyone is lovely so initial nerves have gone. I'm already prepared for
early mornings and late nights as I have created a 'work and play' timetable.
Work is very important to me but I think it's also important to switch off and
let loose a bit, otherwise work will eventually take over your life!

I have just finished my first term of my third year of a Primary Education degree and what a term it has been! It been busy busy busy with my dissertation proposal – deciding what to do my research in, lots of assignment deadlines plus passing my skills test (I passed my numeracy one yesterday!). Now it is Christmas though the workload has calmed down a bit although there are still bits and pieces to get ready for my placement starting in January which I am really excited about.

It looks like my Christmas this year will be very much the same as everyone else’s – with lots of food and relaxing with family and friends. This year will be particularly hectic as I will be celebrating my 21st birthday 3 days after Christmas with New Years just a couple of days after that!

I can’t believe it is nearly time for me to start applying for jobs to start in September. Although I am really nervous about the thought of having my own class, I really can’t wait to start. I have been at my new placement school for a couple of days and so far so good. The class, teachers and staff have been really welcoming and I have really enjoyed getting back in the classroom after a couple of months off. Next term, although I don’t have many assignment deadlines, I’ll be busy with my last teacher practice placement, teaching 4 mornings and 4 afternoons a week. I don’t think I’ll be going out much with this work load!

Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing Christmas and don’t work too hard. Just remember the work will pay off in the end!

Holly
